Who We Are:

This much we were told from the beginning: Evan Chan was murdered. A web of clues has been spun throughout the datasphere, and the Cloudmakers have been investigating since April 12, 2001. Each and every puzzle, each and every element of the current project--the apparent murder of Evan Chan--has been pored over by the Cloudmakers in meticulous detail. The Cloudmakers bring together diverse skills ranging from cutting edge spectral analysis to a unique and unrivaled knowledge of historical events and world literature. Two heads may be better than one, but thousands combine to form the ultimate crimesolving syndicate. In fact, what we're doing is so groundbreaking that Jeanine Salla is involved in writing a paper about us.

What We Do:

OK, fessing up: We're playing a game designed by Microsoft, and the game is a promotion for the film A.I. The film was Stanley Kubrick's unfinished project, and was directed by Steven Spielberg for DreamWorks. Warner Bros. is releasing A.I. in the US on June 29, 2001. For information on overseas release dates, visit the IMDB.

What Academy Award-Nominated Thespian Haley Joel Osment Thinks of Us:

"I don't know too much about this Internet stuff . . . I think it's a great job of publicity. Getting people all excited about this story, then they go to the movie and it's completely different." [From the July 13, 2001 issue of Entertainment Weekly]

Enlist -- Join Our Mailing Lists & Use Our BBS:

Cloudmakers

This is the high traffic version of Cloudmakers. Anyone can post anything they like here. This list contains the most-up-to-date info, but is considerably higher noise than either of the other two lists. Please read our FAQ and labeling guidelines before posting to the list.

Cloudmakers-Moderated

This is the medium traffic version of Cloudmakers. Here, you'll only hear about the stuff that the moderators thought was good enough to read. We won't guarantee that anything in here will be good, but we promise to try to make sure that as little redundancy sneaks in as possible. We take posts from Cloudmakers and bounce them in here.

Cloudmakers-Announce

This is the extremely-low traffic version of Cloudmakers. If you want to hear just the nittiest gritty, subscribe to that list. You'll only hear about the latest verified breakthroughs. No speculation, no debate, no posting whatsoever except by the moderators.

Cloudmakers' BBS

Devoted exclusively to conspiracy theories, and goings-over of particular clues and evidence. In other words, the minutiae lives here.

IRC chatroom

Live discussion can be had 24/7 on the Chat-Solutions IRC network. This network is accessible through AICN's Java chat. One can also download a client or connect via telnet; recommended clients are mIRC for Windows and Ircle for Macs. Use the following servers:

  • irc.chat-solutions.org
  • irc2.chat-solutions.org
We maintain two channels:
  • #evanchan
Solve puzzles, spec, and talk to fellow Cloudmakers here. It's considered polite to ask the channel before talking about movie spoilers, but it is *not* a rule.
  • #ai
Discussions of A.I. are completely allowed here. Puzzle solving needs to remain in #evanchan, however, and channel operators will be enforcing this.
